6 Ways We Should Wait

Waiting is tough. We get in line and wait. We miss a traffic light and wait. Our internet slows up and our blood boils as we wait for sites to load or documents to be retrieved. Waiting is tough and most of us hate waiting.

God, however, works in and on a different schedule. He knows we can learn and grow as in our waiting.

Remember David? He’s told he’s going to be king, but he has to wait fourteen years—and most of that time he was fleeing king Saul and fighting for his life. He had to wait. And, don’t you think God taught him while he was waiting? Patience, wisdom, steadfastness, and forgiveness were just a few of the lessons David learned while he waited for God.

In his Life Application Bible Charles Stanley wrote, ““We want what we want right now. Yet the Word of God insists that we learn some of life’s greatest lessons while we wait. Waiting rooms can be hard classrooms, but God promises vast rewards to those who wait for Him. God plans to use the long pauses in our lives for our blessing. . .if we let Him.”

So, if that’s true, how should we wait?

Patiently
Psalm 37:7 (AMP) Be still and rest in the Lord; wait for Him and patiently lean yourself upon Him; fret not yourself because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who brings wicked devices to pass.

Quietly
Psalm 62:1,5 (AMP)  To the Chief Musician; according to Jeduthun [Ethan, the noted musician, founder of an official musical family]. A Psalm of David. FOR GOD alone my soul waits in silence; from Him comes my salvation.  My soul, wait only upon God and silently submit to Him; for my hope and expectation are from Him.

Trusting
Psalm 37:7 (AMP)  Be still and rest in the Lord; wait for Him and patiently lean yourself upon Him; fret not yourself because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who brings wicked devices to pass.

Expectantly
Psalm 27:13 (AMP)  [What, what would have become of me] had I not believed that I would see the Lord’s goodness in the land of the living!

Steadfastly
Psalm 27:14 (AMP)  Wait and hope for and expect the Lord; be brave and of good courage and let your heart be stout and enduring. Yes, wait for and hope for and expect the Lord.

Standing on God’s Word
Psalm 130:5 (AMP)  I wait for the Lord, I expectantly wait, and in His word do I hope.

God can teach us so much as we lean on Him in the waiting. He has a perfect plan for us and He will reveal it in His good time.
