Standing on the Promises

“The man who tries to walk two roads will split his pants.” —African Proverb

Today’s Verse: “This is what real love is: It is not our love for God; it is God’s love for us. He sent his Son to die in our place to take away our sins.” (1 John 4:10 NCV)

We can try to make multiple choices and like the person of the proverb, wind up splitting our pants. If we are going to live fulfilled, joyful lives, in spite of our circumstances, there’s only one choice—we must choose the one road that leads us to believe God and His promises.

Once we make that choice, we need to put a stake in the ground and stand firm in those promises. We can choose to believe what other people or our feelings tell us. Or, we can choose to believe God’s Word and, without question, without analyzing what has happened, without looking at our past, stand on what He says.

There are hundreds if not thousands of promises in the Bible, but there’s one that is the most important for you to believe and stand upon—He loves you.

Want proof? He sent His very own Son to die a horrific death for you.

His love for you is the most important promise for you to believe. If you have to look in the mirror every morning and every evening and say, “Hey, do you know that God loves you?” do it, and continue doing it until this promise is drilled into your heart (not your head; your heart). It’s not a memory exercise; it’s a belief.

God loves you unconditionally. He loves you in spite of your circumstances. He loves you forever.

This one promise gives us the boldness we need every day to make it through. When we know He loves us, we have comfort in our pain, hope for a future, and a sense of worth. Knowing His love strips away bitterness, anger, and fear. It gives us confidence to wake another day.

God loves you. Hold that promise in your heart, wear it on your face, and let it lead you to victory and freedom. Take the road of His love for you, and you won’t have to worry about splitting your pants ever again.

INSIGHT: The most important promise in the Bible is that God loves you. You can rest in that assurance despite your circumstances and loss.

PRAYER: Thank God for His love for you. Ask Him to help you see His love manifested not just in your life but in everything you do and see in the world. Rest in Him and boldly ask Him to help you stand firm in the most important promise He gives you.
