New Beginnings – The Vision Continues

Yesterday was one of the milestone days in my life. I was ordained as a Pastor, joining our church staff as the person to help develop small group and other resources from our Senior Pastor, Steve Berger’s, teaching. It’s humbling and inspiring. I’m grateful and excited. It’s funny (especially if you knew me “when”) and sobering.

It also allows me to keep alive a vision I’ve had for over 25 years. In 1982, going through one of those “cast your personal vision” exercises (I can’t remember if I was listening to Denis Waitley or Ken Blanchard) I clearly received what would become my life vision – to put life-changing resources into the hands of people who need them.

Since that time, everything I’ve done has been committed to that vision. Whether in publishing (both in marketing and product development), product distribution (how can we efficiently get these resources to as many places as we can?), retail (how can we promote, merchandise, display and/or price these resources so people will find them and buy them?) or as an author (four books in print and five projects in the creative hopper) my life has been shaped by that vision.

But, it doesn’t stop there.

Recently I have also formed The Wayne Hastings Company under the same vision. Which means that while I’m working to create resources as part of the Grace Chapel staff, I’ll also have the ability to help other organizations and authors maximize their products and get them into people’s hands through many creative ways (let’s face it, as Dylan said, “the times they are a changin’” and there are so many options and opportunities to consider).

There is a lesson in all of this: Vision is a powerful tool for us. It should never be created lightly or should it be taken for granted. It’s a driving and motivating force that serves to give you a laser focus on your life’s work.

A good personal vision:

  • Defines your purpose
  • Keeps you focused
  • Allows you to persevere when times are tough
  • Gives you freedom to be creative and active within your zone
  • Communicates values
  • Gives you a solid benchmark

Take it from my personal experience and how my path has been shaped. Your personal vision is a real key for you to have and rely upon. It keeps you going, and gives you a real sense of fulfillment as you see it grow as well as serving and helping others.

Congratulations Wayne! I can’t think of a better job or jobs that you could be doing. I think you are finally starting to find your “sweet spot” by defining your heart/calling to help people connect to God and by continuing to do what you do best which is help create quality products and helping quality authors. I am praying that this frees you to do what you were made to do!
