Radical Obedience « Wayne Hastings

Radical heroes are people of faith. They have a character about them that makes them different from most people. They are so open to God’s calling and they are radically committed to doing exactly what He says.

The writer of Hebrews tell us:

[Prompted] by faith Noah, being forewarned by God concerning events of which as yet there was no visible sign, took heed and diligently and reverently constructed and prepared an ark for the deliverance of his own family. By this [his faith which relied on God] he passed judgment and sentence on the world’s unbelief and became an heir and possessor of righteousness (that relation of being right into which God puts the person who has faith).

Here’s Noah. He’s asked to build a boat with no visible sign—that means he doesn’t know what a flood is and he doesn’t know what a boat is. There’s no sign! I’m sure people thought he was a nut, but the truth is Noah was radically obedient to a God who wants to bless radical obedience.

How many times do we just go through the motions instead of committing ourselves to radical obedience? We have a back up plan, we have our plans. We think, “If things don’t work out, I’ll just do this or that…” Noah worked from no visible plan. He worked solely from a supernatural plan given by a God whom he trusted. He worked in faith with radical obedience.

Radical obedience calls us to connect with Jesus and He changes us. We don’t have a plan, he does. We choose to live a heroic life in radical obedience because He tells us to trust Him and obey Him. He tells us to put our burden on Him, listen to His direction and radically obey.
